Course description

Discover how mindfulness can support your well-being as a teacher and bring more calm, balance and resilience into everyday school life.

During this practical 5-day course in beautiful Finnish Lapland, you will explore mindfulness meditation, stress management and self-compassion through guided practices, short lectures, group discussions and collaborative learning.

You will gain practical tools for managing stress, improving emotional well-being and integrating mindfulness into your daily life and classroom. The course also offers opportunities for intercultural exchange and insights into the Finnish education system.

Experience the restorative power of Arctic nature through mindful outdoor activities and return home with new inspiration, practical skills and a renewed sense of well-being.

No previous mindfulness experience is required!

Learning objective

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

- Understand the principles of mindfulness and its research-based benefits for well-being.

- Practise different mindfulness meditation techniques and integrate them into daily life.

- Recognise stress reactions and use mindfulness to support stress management and emotional regulation.

- Understand the role of self-compassion in emotional well-being and resilience.

- Apply practical mindfulness techniques to support students' concentration, self-regulation and well-being.

- Experience the restorative benefits of mindfulness in nature.

- Exchange ideas and good practices with educators from different cultural and educational backgrounds.

- Develop strategies for integrating mindfulness into their personal and professional lives.

Teaching methods and assessment

The course combines practical mindfulness and meditation exercises with short lectures, group discussions, self-reflection and nature-based activities.

Learning is assessed through active participation, reflection and discussions. On the final day, participants evaluate their learning and explore how to apply mindfulness in daily life and teaching.

Materials and learning resources

Participants receive a course book, mindfulness meditation recordings and scripts, and practical exercises for personal and classroom use. Digital learning resources support independent practice and continued learning after the course.

Optional school visit: €60/person (transportation not included).

Course programme

DAY1

Welcome. Introduction to Mindfulness & everyday practise

- Welcome, participant introductions and course overview - Warm-up activities and icebreakers - Introduction to mindfulness – theory and practice - Cultivating mindfulness in daily life through guided exercises and practical techniques

DAY2

Mindfulness for Stress Management & Emotional Well-Being

- Mindfulness and stress management – theory and practice - Understanding emotions and their connection to stress and well-being - Guided mindfulness exercises for emotional awareness and regulation

DAY3

Mindfulness in Nature – Exploring Arctic Lapland

- Discover Rovaniemi and the beautiful nature of Ounasvaara - Guided snowshoeing excursion in the Arctic forest (in the winter!) - Mindfulness in nature – practising awareness, presence and connection with the natural environment

DAY4

Mindfulness in Education & Cultural Exchange

- 9:00–11:00 Optional school visit (€60/person, transportation not included). Please book in advance via email. - Mindfulness in the school environment – theory, practice and practical classroom applications - Cultural evening – presenting your own culture and exploring the cultures, school systems and educational practices of other participating countries.

DAY5

Self-Compassion & Mindfulness – Reflection & Closing

- Self-compassion and mindfulness – theory and practice - Guided exercises for cultivating self-compassion and emotional well-being - Reflection on learning outcomes and applying mindfulness in daily life and teaching - Course feedback, evaluation and closing session
