Training course for non-native teachers of Spanish (1 week)

Course description

Speaking exercises focus on the study of Spanish culture, so that the teachers practise and improve their language skills while learning about Spain's current social and cultural reality. We also place special emphasis on grammar structures for proficiency levels. In addition, we work on methodology and didactic aspects of teaching Spanish as a foreign language, giving participating teachers practical tips for their own teaching. We also incorporate the use of digital tools and learning methods. Participants go through a process of renovation that will invigorate their teaching. They think about their teaching activities and different aspects that encompass language acquisition and foreign language learning. Both public school Spanish teachers or adult education teachers take part part in our training courses.

Learning objective

Course objectives:

- to update participants' knowledge of Spanish and improve their linguistic competence in Spanish.

- to improve teachers' ability to teach Spanish.

- to offer a space for resolving linguistic doubts and to deepen the knowledge of problematic aspects of Spanish.

- to promote a process of renewal that reinforces their work as teachers of Spanish.

- to promote reflection on their teaching activity both on a theoretical and practical level.

- to teach teachers how to use information and communication technologies in the Spanish language classroom.

- to broaden and update socio-cultural knowledge of the reality of today's Spain.

- to compare the Spanish socio-cultural situation with the situation in other European countries.

Teaching methods and assessment

Our course focuses on the development of linguistic competence while at the same time aiming to broaden the competence of participants in specific areas and methodology. It is important to encourage reflection on their activity as teachers. The exchange of experiences is always an enrichment of one's own teaching work. A special focus is placed on linguistic questions and doubts. In addition, teachers will be able to expand their knowledge of the most problematic grammatical aspects. The course will focus on mainly practical tasks and activities, encouraging linguistic immersion and reflection on the learning process. As this is an eminently practical course, we propose a methodology that places teachers at the centre of the teaching-learning process. This means that participants play an active role in the construction of their own learning. With this course we aim to foster the communicative competence of the participants and we deal with the use of the media in the Spanish classroom.
