Social-Emotional Learning in the Classroom
Practical SEL activities for self-awareness, emotion regulation, empathy and relations.

Course description
Students who can name and regulate their emotions, cooperate and resolve conflicts learn better and are happier at school. This course introduces the CASEL framework of social-emotional learning (SEL) and, above all, practical activities for everyday lessons: morning circles, emotion vocabulary, regulation strategies, empathy and perspective taking, cooperative structures and restorative conversations. You will experience each activity yourself, adapt it for your age group and plan a SEL routine for your class. We also cover how to involve parents and how to embed SEL in a whole-school approach. Suitable for primary and lower secondary teachers, counsellors and special needs staff.
Learning objective
Participants will be able to explain the core SEL competences, lead a range of SEL activities suitable for their students, integrate emotion regulation and relationship skills into daily routines and lessons, and plan first steps towards a whole-school SEL approach.
Teaching methods and assessment
Methods: experiential workshops, modelling of activities, role play, planning in age-group teams, case discussions, outdoor activities. Assessment: participants lead an SEL activity for the group with feedback, complete a SEL routine plan for their class, and reflect daily in a journal.
